Information Technology

A progressive introduction to information systems, programming, databases, web development and responsible technology use.

Programme purpose

Understanding the systems behind modern work.

Build confidence in core computing ideas through small programming exercises, foundational database work, web development and practical information-system examples.

The programme is intended for secondary-school graduates or equivalent learners beginning subject study. It emphasises clear explanations, guided practical work and the independent application of core ideas.

Academic review curriculum descriptor: Diploma of Information Technology. This is not a statement of AQF qualification status or university credit.

Subject overview

Eight subjects. Two semesters.

Each subject has 60 scheduled contact hours. The summaries below provide a public introduction to the areas of study, not the complete academic syllabus.

Semester 1

4 compulsory subjects
IPA-COM101

Business Communication

Develop clear workplace writing, discussion and presentation skills, with an emphasis on communicating evidence and practical recommendations.

IPA-IT102

Introduction to Information Systems

Explore how people, processes, data and software work together, and how a small information system might be improved.

IPA-IT103

Introduction to Computing

Build a foundation in computer components, digital information, algorithms, networks, basic security and AI concepts.

IPA-IT104

Introduction to Computer Programming

Learn Python fundamentals through small programs that use inputs, decisions, loops, functions, simple files and testing.

Semester 2

4 compulsory subjects
IPA-IT105

Database Design and Management

Model a small relational database and practise keys, relationships, SQL queries, data integrity and simple recovery.

IPA-IT106

Java Programming

Progress from introductory coding to Java methods, objects, classes, collections and a manageable console application.

IPA-IT107

Web Development

Design and test a small website using HTML, CSS and introductory JavaScript, with attention to accessibility and clear content.

IPA-BUS102

People and Organisation

Learn how teams work, how roles and feedback affect performance, and how organisations support people in practice.

Study model

Grounded in practical understanding.

Subject study is organised around a planned 15-week teaching sequence. Students encounter the essentials of each discipline before tackling applied tasks that call for their own explanation and reasoning.

Instruction is primarily in Korean, with English academic language introduced progressively. Learning support is planned alongside the core subject timetable.

The six technical subjects incorporate 24 scheduled hours of introductory AI literacy within their existing contact hours. The focus is understanding, verification and responsible use, not advanced model development.

Important distinction

Academic recognition is separate.

Information about IPA's curriculum may support a university's independent academic consideration. It does not establish an approved partnership, a credit entitlement, an Australian qualification or automatic university admission.
